Just a little something that's been getting at me recently...
Sparked off by this entry in [info]pottersues' journal.

Okay, all you people who didn't seem to get the message in my ff.net bio ("all flames will be used to heat my English tea"), feel free to hate my stories, by all means. You're all entitled to your own opinion, and I respect that, but there are two things: 1. I don't want to know, and 2. For those of you who won't respect my feelings about that, I don't care, either.

Constructive criticism is fine. Brilliant actually, as I do actually want to make my writing better. I would also appreciate it if people pointed out bits of incorrect grammar that I might've missed when I scanned through the text. Telling me that my character is a Mary-Sue is fine, too, as long as you're nice about it, and I'll appreciate it that some of my earlier stories (like Seeing is Believing) are so bad that it sometimes seems funny and at other times just painful, and I don't automatically hate anyone who tells me so. It is only flames that I object to.

Not only are they hurtful, but they are also completely unhelpful, and so the only reason I see for writing them is just to upset the author.

There is a saying that goes, "if you're not going to say anything nice, then don't say anything at all". In this respect, I'm going to hold with that. If all you want to do when you review a story is make an attack, then just hold your tongue (or fingers, as the case may be), because you're not helping anyone.
