Nicked from [info]mara_202:

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your live journal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.

  1. Dar Williams//The One Who Knows

  2. Imogen Heap//Speeding Cars

  3. Regina Spektor//On the Radio

  4. The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus//Face Down

  5. Ross Copperman//Fly Away

  6. Mark Ronson & Lily Allen//Oh My God

  7. Fall Out Boy//Thanks For the Memories

I seem to've been on a folk-rock kick recently, since 1-3 are really the only things I've listened to in about a week. Will upload, if anyone wants to listen to them, which I kind of doubt.

And also: not tagging anyone ~ but feel free to steal.

An update on the cello situation:

We've been told that if it were to be repaired, then we would have to spend exactly what it would be worth afterwards. Dad doesn't want to bother.

Mum suggested giving it to the workshop where she made Little Blue, so they could use it for demonstrations on how to fix broken instruments. I told them that how much it would be worth would hardly matter, once it was fixed, because I wanted to play it, not sell it. Dad ignored this reasoning, because I've been needing a full size cello for a while now.

My only response to this was, 'I don't want a full-size cello: I want Red.'

To which Dad replied, 'What on earth is "Red"?'

This is my answer (and sorry the last picture is so big - I didn't actually realise it until I already had it uploaded. I am such an idiot sometimes):

My cello is broken.

The strap broke when I was trying to take it off my back to put it in the car, and it fell on the ground and now the back's split off down one side.

Dad says he doesn't know if it's worth fixing.

current song: Third Eye Blind, Motorcycle Drive By

Well, Dieter's gone now, so I've got my internet connection back. He's so sweet: he left me a note on the desk, saying:

Dear Frances,
Thanks for letting
me stay in your
paradise. I heard
you like Beethoven,
my favourite com-
poser. This is instead
of a music CD.
Best,
Dieter

And there was a £10 note on top of it. Naturally, I am going to use it to buy a Beethoven CD. *Hugs Dieter*

current song: Childhood, Yann Tiersen

When I move out, I am not going to have a telephone. Having one go off in the next room is an unsurprisingly jarring way to by brought out of a creative daze.

*Scowls* I am now in a decidedly bad mood.

Also: ringing + Yann Tiersen = bad!karma

current song: Death Cab for Cutie, I'll Follow You Into the Dark

Today I got up at 9:00 to go busking. Carol-singing for money, that is, with several of my schoolfriends. Sarah and Katie say they reckon we might've raised about £40-50 for Oxfam. This was for two hours' worth of Christmas carols in front of the giant Christmas tree outside the Grafton: apparently last year they managed to make £20 in one hour, so I suppose this is a slight improvement.

My fingers were completely frozen by the end of it, though.

Life sucks. [info]lizzip has been officially moved out of our quartet, and into one called Pomegranite, which doesn't even practice until fifteen minutes after my group's finished, so I have to stick around for another fifteen minutes if I want to get a (however brief) chance to speak to her. Clearly, Bob's luckiness is not working in this instance.

Also (note this, Lizzie) there is a talk on at school on Thursday 6th October at 7.30pm from Keirsten Clark, from a literary consultancy called Writing Ltd. Lizzie, I am inviting you to come with me (though you already know that), and Mum's already agreed that she'll pay for us to go, if you can make it, so everything's organised, except for, you know, me handing in the form to get tickets.

Cantore

current song: Howard Shore (Annie Lennox), Into the West

So, today is a day that (hopefully) I'll remember for the rest of my life: the last ever Cantore concert with Miss Flemming as choirmistress. We sang Scarborough Fair, Misere Mei Deus, Ave Maria: Litany to Mary, Be thou my vision, Fields of Gold and The Lord is My Shepherd, among others, and we finished with a massively loud rendition of Sir C. Hubert C. Parry's I was Glad.

And now Miss Flemming's leaving, and Miss Chiam's taking over, and Cantore is going to turn into a giant version of Allegro, which really won't work. So I'm stuck: On one side, I'd leave, because I really don't like the way Miss Chiam runs her choirs, and on the other side, a whole load of other people will probably be leaving, and I don't want Cantore to diminish, especially since Miss Flemming put so much work in it, and I know thta she'll probably come to hear all our concerts and I don't want to let her down.

*Cries*

And on a completely unrelated note, apparently David's getting married in December, and I'm invited to the wedding and I don't have to wear a dress like I did for Catty's wedding. I'll also be seeing Robin there (naturally, since he's David's brother), as well as Gwen and Gwyllim and Marged and Uncle Pat.

Wow. Just... wow.

I just finished watching Live Aid (except that I think it's actually called Live 8, now), and it's really quite amazing the kind of atmosphere that it can create, even when you're just seeing it on the tele. Apparently the show in Philadelphia is still going, even though it's almost half past midnight, but I'm really too tired to stay up and watch the end.

And hey, they got Duran Duran, but at Hyde Park there was Paul McCartney, singing Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band live for the first time ever! I definitely know which I'd rather hear (but then again, I may be slightly biased, as I was raised listening to Beatles records).
